Pick Artwork for Your Bedroom
Pick Artwork for Your Bedroom

Art speaks--and it doesn't always use the right words. It is an expression not only of your taste but also your commitment to the creative world. When choosing a piece for your intimate quarters, it is important to factor a number of elements into your decision. Read below to help determine which artwork is right for your bedroom.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Camera
  1. Step 1

Select a space for the art. Depending on layout, this might be above the headboard, next to a closet or overlooking a dresser.

  2. Step 2

Set a budget. Though you may end up looking at pieces slightly above and below your set price, having a defined starting point will help a seller point you in the appropriate direction.

  3. Step 3

Take photos of the colors and design scheme in your bedroom.

  4. Step 4

Visit art stores and galleries in your area. You can find these in the phone book or a city directory.

  5. Step 5

Show sellers the photos and explain the type of piece you want to fill the space. If you aren't sure, say so.

  6. Step 6

Shop around. While one-of-a-kind pieces do sometimes sell while potential buyers mull, you don't want to rush into purchasing a piece about which you aren't confident.

Tips & Warnings
  • Art dealers often sell their merchandise at traveling shows. Call local hotels to see if any such shows are scheduled.
  • Docents at local museums might be able to help narrow down your options. Don't be afraid to ask their opinion.
  • Make sure you measure how much space you have available before purchasing. There is nothing worse than owing a beautiful piece and having nowhere to put it.
  • Art can get expensive but don't allow yourself to be swindled. If you think the price of the piece you desire is too high, ask how the dealer came to that price. Based on his answer, determine if you are comfortable with the tag or consider bargaining.
