It doesn't have to be the Christmas holidays to throw a cookie decorating party. A dull rainy day can also be perked up by this tasty activity. Break out those cookie cutters and those creative minds, make some dough or buy some pre-made sugar cookie dough at the grocery store and get your little kids (and their friends) arm-deep in flour and sugary decorations. Here are some ideas to get this spur-of-the-moment party up and running happily.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dough
  • Decorations
  • Cookie cutters
  • Icing
  • Pot luck snacks and drinks
  1. Step 1

Invite some kid friends to your party. Have their parents each bring some snacks for everyone to share.

  2. Step 2

Have the kitchen table floured, with dough for each kid to roll out or press flat. Have the kids use cookie cutters or a knife to make their favorite shapes.

  3. Step 3

Bake cookies and allow to cool.

  4. Step 4

Frost the cookies with vanilla frosting. Have the kids choose from a variety of decorations you supply to sprinkle on top. Mini chocolate chips, raisins, nuts, tiny marshmallows, coconut as well as cake decorations work well.

  5. Step 5

Let each kid pile a paper plate with their creations to take home or eat right there.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a very easy party, buy round sugar cookies at the grocery store. Buy pre-made frosting and have the decorating party without the mess of baking.
  • Use food coloring in your dough for a fun cookie color alternative.
