Now that you've sat down and started to write your book you are probably figuring out just how much work the task entails. Writing a book is work and takes time. Follow these steps and you will be doing everything within your power to accomplish this difficult task.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • The need, desire, patience, and will to write.
  • time
Step1
Make time. If you don't sit in the chair, nothing will get written. The only way anything ever gets written is when you actually sit down and take the time to write.
Step2
Dedicate yourself to the task at hand. Determine that yes, you will finish writing this book!
Step3
Treat this idea as a job. Writing is work and demands your respect. You'll think of a million reasons not to sit down and write and your task is to fight through that urge.
Step4
Set up a writing schedule. Determine on what days and for how long you will sit and write. Stick with it.
Step5
Write. Sit down and write. The only way anything ever gets written is by sitting down and doing it. It doesn't have to be great art, just put words on the page.
Step6
Rewrite. Writing shouldn't be called writing, it should be called re-writing. Think of your first draft as a lump of clay and the rewrites, no matter how seemingly endless, your way of crafting that lump to look exactly as you imagined it.
Step7
Should you fail, simply repeat the process.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may not ever get your masterpiece published, but you will be able to hold your head up and say that you've written your book and that will be a great deal more than most people who sit down and start to write a book will ever be able to say.
