Traveling in Asia is one of the best ways to stretch your travel dollar without going too far outside your comfort zone. Here's how to make that budget last longer than you ever dreamed at home.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Backpacking travel gear
  • A pen and pad to keep track of expenses
  • Travel guidebooks

Step1
When planning your trip to Asia, choose to visit countries and areas that won't break the bank like India, Thailand, Cambodia, rural China, Laos and others. Also stay away from most major tourist centers.
Step2
Plan trips where the featured attraction is spending time outdoors, like hanging out on the beach or hiking.
Step3
Eat local foods and stay in budget guesthouses or hostels.
Step4
Arrange to travel on overnight trains and busses as this saves the cost of a room for the night.
Step5
Travel with a partner or companion as much as possible to share costs.
Step6
Keep track of all your expenses to make sure you're on budget. If you start to run low , inquire about local work or look for place that offer room and board in exchange for volunteering.

Tips & Warnings

  • Bargain with locals, but not to the point of offending the merchant.
  • Remember to be generous when you can, as many locals will never be able to have the luxury of traveling the world.
