How to Find a Beach in the Florida Keys

For a beautifully strung together string of islands, it can be hard to find a beach in the American Caribbean. Much of the prime real estate has been gobbled up by hotels, resorts, and lucky home owners. The following list of beaches will make it easy to stretch out and get some sun time.

Things You’ll Need:

  • towel, sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, hat, book, cold drink
Step1
Beaches in the Upper Keys, Key Largo and Islamorada, can be found at:
John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, Mile Marker 102.5, Key Largo.
Harry Harris Park, Mile Marker 93, Tavernier, turn left on Burton Drive.
Founders Park, Mile Marker 87, Plantation Key.
Anne's Beach, Mile Marker 76, Upper Matecumbe Key.
Step2
In the Middle Keys, beaches can be found at:
Curry Hammock State Park, Mile Marker 56, Grassy Key.
Coco Plum Public Beach, Marathon, turn south on Coco Plum Drive.
Sombrero Beach, Marathon, turn left as Sombrero Boulevard.
Step3
In the Lower Keys:
Bahia Honda State Park, Bahia Honda, Mile Marker 34. Sandspur Beach, at Bahia Honda, was voted America's Best Beach by Stephen Leatherman, better known as Dr. Beach, in 1992.
Step4
In Key West:
Higg's Beach, near the end of White Street.
Smather's Beach,along South Roosevelt Boulevard.
SOuth Beach, at the end of Duval Street.
Fort Zachary Taylor State Park, enter at the Truman Annex.
