If you're searching for the perfect gift for your grandchild, build this old-fashioned rocking boat. It's timeless, elegant and a heck of a lot of fun.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 sheet of 3/4 inch plywood, 4 feet x 4 feet
  • 1 sheet of 1/4 inch plywood, 4 feet x 8 feet
  • 2 handles
  • Circular or hand saw
  • Wood screws
  • Drill
  • Jigsaw
  • Edgebanding
  • Glue
  • Clamps
  • Sander
  • Paint or stain
  1. Step 1

Cut a piece of 3/4 inch plywood 30 inches x 15 inches. Make a mark 3 inches from the top at each end. Draw a curve from one mark to the other so that the bottom of the curve just barely touches the bottom of the plywood. Using a jigsaw, cut along the curve. Clean up the cut by sanding. Use the piece as a template to cut out an identical piece.

  2. Step 2

Cut 2 pieces, 3 inches x 18 inches x 3/4 inch, and cut a second piece, 18 inches x 18 inches x 3/4 inch. Span the 2 curved pieces with the 3 inch x 18 inch pieces. Fit them into the 3-inch place you left above the curve. Take the 18-inch x 18-inch piece and span the curved pieces as low on the pieces as it can go without sticking out below the curve.

  3. Step 3

Cut the 1/4 inch plywood into nineteen 1/2-inch wide strips. Place a bead of glue on the curved surface of the curved pieces. Gently bend the 1/4-inch plywood around the curve. Attach along the way. Place glue all over the 1/4 inch piece. Attach another 1/4 inch piece on top of it. Attach. Take one more piece of 1/4 inch plywood and attach on top gluing in between. Clamp and allow the glue to dry.

  4. Step 4

    Sand all surfaces.

  5. Step 5

    Edgeband any exposed edges.

  6. Step 6

Paint or stain to your liking.

  7. Step 7

Attach the handles one to the top of each side.

  8. Step 8

    Rock away.
