When it's finally time to rip out that avocado green wallpaper, why not consider redecorating with "green" materials of the eco-friendly sort?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bamboo shades
  • Recycled glass
  • Furniture and accessories made from rattan, abaca or other raw materials
  1. Step 1

When it comes time to redecorate, raw materials are the greenest way to go. You can start with some nice, fashionable bamboo shades for window covering.

  2. Step 2

Recycled glass like old wine bottles are a great way to let more light into an area. A glass bottle bottom wall can be both stylish and illuminating.

  3. Step 3

If you need to paint, be sure to buy a low-VOC "eco-brand" that contains minimal toxic ingredients.

  4. Step 4

When it comes time to add new furniture, look for bamboo or rattan. These raw materials grow faster, making them more renewable than that ancient oak tree that became your grandparents' table.

  5. Step 5

For a floor covering, try an Abaca woven rug, from a plant grown green in the Philippines.

  6. Step 6

Recycle or buy used materials and furniture as often as possible!

Tips & Warnings
  • Garage sales and thrift stores can be treasure troves. Most thrift store furniture can easily be sanded down and refinished.
  • Take safety and sanitary precautions when dealing with recycled glass and other materials.
