Being a comedian is a fun career that is just as much promotion as it is talent. Being funny isn’t enough; you must have business sense. Follow these steps and you’ll be well on your way to superstardom.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Set up a website which hosts your reel, bio, credits, performance schedule, contact info (email, not phone number) and a few photos of you.
Step2
Join a few social networking sites as “comedian” and post your photos, reel, and performance calendar there.
Step3
Get business cards made, you can do this cheaply or even for free on some websites. Put your name, email, phone number, website and occupation (comedian) on the card. This should be a separate business card from your day job card.
Step4
Collect email addresses at your shows, and form a mailing list. Do not bombard this list, but simply send them reminders of upcoming shows that you deem important.
Step5
Place a few clips on video websites with catchy titles that will catch people’s eyes.
Step6
Remember, none of this promotion does any good if the product is not up to snuff. Most importantly you need to work on your craft, and a lot of things will fall into place after you have really mastered the art of stand up comedy.
