The hard part is over. You’ve gotten in the door to the competitive world of commercial auditioning. As important as it is to be talented, it’s equally important to present yourself in the best way possible. Here are some simple steps to looking your best in front of the camera.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Solid colored shirt
  • Makeup--foundation, eye makeup, blush, lipstick
  • Brush/hair care products
Step1
Choose a solid colored shirt/dress. Busy prints, stripes, polka dots are all too distracting. Stay away from black and white—they both tend to wash you out on camera. Don’t worry too much about pants/skirts/shoes. Most commercial auditions shoot you from the waist up.
Step2
When applying makeup, make sure to use foundation, which takes away a lot of your imperfections. Use a strong under eye concealer, moderate/tasteful eye makeup, a complimentary lip stick/gloss, and enough blush to make your cheeks look rosy. Use more makeup than you would on an average day, but avoid looking trashy.
Step3
Take time with your hair. If it’s frizzy, blow dry it straight or curl it neatly with a curling iron. Make sure it looks neat and styled before you leave. Hair spray will secure your flyaways in place.
Step4
Wear minimal jewelry. Avoid large dangly earrings, gaudy rings, and chunky necklaces. You want to casting director to look at you not your jewelry!
