From time to time a washing machine will have unpleasant odors. This will sometimes permeate the laundry. This is the procedure I use to eliminate the smell.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • top loading washing machine, bleach, baking soda, measuring cup
  1. Step 1

Fill the machine with hot water.

  2. Step 2

Add 3 cups of chlorine bleach, such as, Clorox.

  3. Step 3

Allow to sit for 1 hour, then, run a complete wash cycle.

  4. Step 4

Repeat steps 1-3 using baking soda instead of bleach and the odors should be eliminated.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are unable to use bleach, then run both cycles with baking soda.
  • Do not use chlorine bleach if you have a septic system as this may harm the system.
