Want to try a challenging new sport and by new I mean that this sport hasn't been around for very long. Paint ball can be a very fast paced, adrenaline pumping, challenging, and most importantly fun game. So, here are a few pointers in getting started.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a few friends
  • little bit of money
  • slight pain thresh hold
  1. Step 1

Find a place to play. There are parks dedicated to paint ball, with bunkers, safety nets etc. I suggest you find a park for your first time to cut down on costs. If you cant find a park and have a buddy with some land you can play on their property. Most company's don't mind if you uses their land with their permission. Just don't trash the place with water-bottles and garbage. For example I used to play on the woods next to an electric company's building and all it took was a phone call.

  2. Step 2

The reason I suggest you find a paint ball park to play at is because they can rent you all the equipment you'll need to begin playing. This is good so that you can make sure you like it before you buy all the equipment which can add up. So lets go over equipment, the first and most important thing you'll need is a paint ball mask, these rang in prices from $30 to $150 depending on the features. You will need a mask!! Ive heard stories of kids playing with masks getting their shout out etc. something else you'll obviously want is a paint ball marker, paint ball markers range from dirt cheap to very very expensive. If you want to make paint ball a regular hobby you'll want to buy a gun for a few hundred bucks. So it will last and not fail on you, no point in buying a cheap gun if it keeps breaking on you and you never get to play. you'll also want a hopper, these hold the pain balls and feeds them to your gun while you shoot. There are a wide variety of these from electric ones to non electric to ones that tell time, its your choice, but if you buy a fast shooting gun you'll want an electric hopper. Another necessity is a barrel plug, when you're sitting out a game or have been tagged always put in your barrel plug!! these protect you and the people around you from accidental discharges. Another thing you'll need is an air supply, Co2 is widely used but is getting pushed to the side by compressed air and even nitrogen, your marker will probably be fine with C02 but check the owners manual anyway. Some other things you may want but not need are a neck guard, the neck is a very sensitive place to get tagged at, I've seen two people get shot in the neck and instantly collapse, and I don't mean fall, they blacked out, so its something i don't go to the park with out. another thing you may want are pods and a pod holders to carry extra paint.

  3. Step 3

Now, on to the rules. finally. The international rule of the speed of a paintball is 300 fps (feet per second) no matter where you play in the world this is the fastest allowed speed. Another widely used rule is the 10 foot rule meaning you can not shoot another player that is 10 feet or closer. Another rule is that the paint ball mask is on at all times while in the game zone. No matter what happens never ever take off your mask. Ever! Another rule is that barrel plugs must be on at all times while in the staging area. The biggest no no of paint ball is called "wiping" this is when you get tagged but just wipe it off and keep playing. This is the most looked down apon action in paintball. Nobody likes to play with a cheater.
