Are you a sucker for every TV commercial advertising some new gadget to remove pet hair from your furniture? Has your fabric couch begun to look like a fur couch? Then you should try these easy steps for a quick way to remove pet hair from your furniture.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment (optional)
  • A pair of rubber gloves such as Playtex Living Gloves
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Begin by using the hose attachment of the vacuum cleaner to vacuum as much of the pet hair as possible off of the furniture.

  2. Step 2

Next, put on the rubber gloves and dip them in cold water. Shake your hands so that the gloves are damp but not dripping water.

  3. Step 3

Wearing the dampened rubber gloves, run your hands across the furniture fabric in one direction. The dampened gloves will gather the pet hair together in a little roll that you can easily pick up and throw in the trash. Keep wiping all of the fabric in this manner until it is free of pet hair. Voila! You should now have fur-free fabric!

Tips & Warnings
  • The best way to prevent pet hair on your furniture is to train your pet not to get on the furniture when it is little. But, if the pet is older, you can still train the pet not to get on the furniture. I've found that using a spraying a shot of water from a spray bottle motivates cats to not get on furniture. This method also works on dogs. A loud noise associated with the dog getting on the furniture also works. Good luck!
  • Be careful to only use cold water if you have dark colored fabric furniture. You do not want the dyes in the fabric to bleed.
  • If you rub the fabric too hard or for too long, the friction may produce heat and make your hands uncomfortable.

on 7/21/2009 I agree pet hair is the worst! My cat gets it everywhere. I use Fur-Zoff to remove it. I like it best because it's a "green" product that's made of recycled materials and has a lifetime guarantee. You can find it at http://www.FurZoff.net for about $10. Hope this helps!
