How to Find Your Place of Power

Ever notice how animals will circle a room until they find a place where they’ll be comfortable? They’re practicing a personal and intuitive Feng-Shui, the art of placement affecting self and events. You yourself probably have a favorite chair or spot to relax in. Do you know why this is? You feel more comfortable in your place of power, and you’ll probably find that it increases your feeling of well-being, intuition and creativity. So don’t just flop down in any old seat.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Examine your sense of security in the place you are right now as you read this. Now switch locations to a place you normally don't hang out. Is there resistance? A feeling of vulnerability? Or maybe a more secure feeling? Try different rooms as well.
Step2
Note the colors around you. Objects, smells and noise as well. Is your breathing deeper, more serene? If you’re in tune enough, you might experience a slight sense of warmth surrounding your “place of power.” Ideally, when you locate the place (or the place locates you), you’ll resonate like a tuning fork.
Step3
Spend some time in a new spot that feels powerful to you. Absorb the experience of a new visual perspective, different textures and even smells. Make it your own (short of marking the territory like the aforementioned animals!)
Step4
Being outdoors is good practice in finding your place of power. Are you more comfortable by water, sitting on a rock, sprawled out beneath a tree? Some places are more spiritually powerful than others, Stonehenge or Grand Canyon, for example. It’s no accident that many holy sites have been built repeatedly on certain natural locations. When you find your nature spot, return to it in times of need.
Step5
When entering a restaurant, store, meeting or other homes, circle as unobtrusively as possible, sniffing out your place. This is a valuable tactic as well during confrontations, business meetings or negotiations. A friend of mine never sits with his back to the door and always with his back against a wall. I’m not sure if that’s his position/place of power or merely a security measure!
Step6
If you find these steps valuable, continue your exploration of personal space by studying Feng-Shui. Remember: Where you sit is telling you who you are. Instead, tell yourself where to sit!
