How to Enjoy Atlanta's PATH trail system

Winding through the city of Atlanta and nearby cities, the system of PATH trails give walkers, runners, bikers and rollerbladers their own miles-long stretch of concrete. It's the perfect place to take a break from the traffic and take in some greenery and Atlanta-area sights.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • a trail map of Atlanta, available at www.pathfoundation.org.

Step1
There are many different entry points for this trail. A favorite is at Euclid Avenue in Inman Park. At that point the trail will take you toward the Virginia-Highland neighborhood. You can choose to veer left and head toward The King Center, where you can learn about Martin Luther King Jr. From here it is a 17-mile journey to Stone Mountain Park. Fourteen miles are greenway trails and three miles are on the road. The trail continues into the park.
Step2
Another popular path is the three-mile route around Chastain Park. According to the PATH Foundation, about 250 joggers, dog-walkers, cyclists and rollerbladers use the trail each hour. A second loop, nearby at the Galloway School, is reportedly under development.
Step3
The Silver Comet trail is another beloved greenway. This path takes you through the north Georgia countryside for a stretch of 60 miles. It begins at the intersection of South Cobb Drive and the East-West Connector in Smyrna and continues to the Alabama border.

Tips & Warnings

  • Occasionally there are interruptions along the trail, which will require you to either travel along the road or change your route. Signs are very clear, though, so it should be easy to pick up the trail again once you've left it.
