How to Clear History in Internet Explorer

Clearing out history and temp files on internet explorer.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Computer
• Mouse
• Keyboard

1. Generally most of these files would be cleaned out by running system cleanup or ad-aware type program, and these are temp files that are cached, but if you want to clear your history or change your history settings this is how.

2. 
   Internet Explorer

   In internet explorer, Double click the Blue E on the desktop, this will open up the internet explorer window.

   Internet Options

   In the internet explorer window the menus at the top, or to the right if using Internet explorer Seven and you haven’t moved the tool bars, click on tools then internet options.

   Left click on internet options this will bring up the internet options dialog, This can also be done by going to the control panel and double clicking on intent option as well.

5. Once on the internet options settings window, under the section that says “browsing History” click on delete to simply just delete the current history.
   
   If you want to change the history settings click on settings.

   Here is where you can change how long the history stays in your computer, how much disk space to use, and if you wish to change it where to save the temp (cached files) too.
   
   At the bottom of this screen is where you would change the amount of days to keep history, if you change it to zero, then each new day the process tarts over.

7. I do not suggest changing anything in this window other than the days you wish to keep history stored; the default settings for internet explorer are generally the best setup for you.

   History To the Left

   That is how you change the history setting in internet explorer; the other way to clear out history in internet explorer is to pull up the history on the left.

9. Once this window is up you can click on the days on the left, and right click and select delete, to get your internet to look like this go to the tools menu, and select tool bars, and one of the choices should be history.

10. If you are still using Internet explorer six, the history button should already be part of the menus at the top. Simply click on that button and this will come up on the left.
    
    That is how you change the history settings in internet explorer.

• This does not remove ad-aware spyware or viruses to do so, you will need to use a tool designed for that.
