pay off AFTRA Membership fee

Becoming a union actor/voice over artist is quite a feat! However, once you’ve accomplished this goal and been asked to join AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) you’ll be slapped with a hefty membership fee. Here’s how to successfully pay it off while being smart with your money.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wait until an AFTRA representative calls you to tell you you MUST join.

  2. Step 2

Tell the representative that you need to pay off the membership fee in installments, i.e. your own payment plan. Many actors do not know that unlike SAG, AFTRA does not make you pay off the fee all at once.

  3. Step 3

Send them a fairly large amount for the first payment (around $300).

  4. Step 4

Set a goal for when you want to be paid off by. Then divide your remaining balance by six and send in a check every month to AFTRA.

  5. Step 5

When your entire balance is paid you will get an ID card in the mail saying you are a member in good standing and you will feel so relieved that the debt is gone!
