Transferring schools is tough. You have to make new friends, get accustomed to a new campus and new rules. But transferring can also be a unique opportunity. Here are some tips that can help ease the transition into a new and different school.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A little bit of self-confidence
  • A positive outlook
  1. Step 1

Smile. You may initially hate your new school, but that shouldn’t be obvious. It’s new and your old friends aren’t there and it’s tough. Get over it. If you smile and play it cool, you can start meeting new people. You won’t meet anyone with a frown glued to your face. It’s all about your attitude.

  2. Step 2

Join a club or athletic team. While class is fun, it provides a difficult platform for being social. Extracurricular activities are better suited for socializing and meeting new people. If you go to a big university, frats are a good way to meet people beyond your dormitory floor.

  3. Step 3

Walk around school. Familiarity is key to transitioning. Once you feel at home, your negative feelings might subside.

  4. Step 4

Be open. If you’re at college and living in a dorm, keep your door open. It signifies to your floor mates that your room is always available for hanging out.
