How to Behave At a Corporate Party

Corporate parties can be a blast. You’re pent up at work with your peers for 40 hours a week every week and stay ignorant to what they are like outside of their respective cubicles. For a few hours, you get to socialize in a setting that’s not near a water cooler. But watch out. It is still work and what you do at a corporate event can have direct bearing on how your coworkers treat you. Here are some tips to help you balance the fun and professional sides of your personality.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Self Control

Step1
Open up. Corporate parties are perfect places to network and connect with your coworkers. Chances are many of them feel the same way about their vocations you do. Be open to meeting new faces. You might be surprised at who you connect with.
Step2
Arrive fashionably late. People often leave work early to get to the company party. This might send a bad message to the boss. Showing up to a party around 15-20 minutes late does no harm. In fact, it exemplifies your dedication to the company and gives your coworkers the impression you were tied up doing something important.
Step3
Drink socially. It’s been said that those that can have a beer or two eventually earn more in their lives than those that don’t. If that’s true, it’s probably because more people can relate to someone easy going enough to down one or two beers. Your peers will relax if you’re drinking too. Plus, it draws less attention to you. Just be careful not to down too many. You don’t want to lose your job.
Step4
Relax. Your coworkers are there to have a good time. You should too.
