Things You'll Need:
- Wrapping paper
- Glue
- Scissors appropriate for children
- Scissors
- A ruler
- A pencil
- Cardboard that is larger than the picture frame
- A picture frame to mount on the wall
-
Step 1
Center the picture frame on your piece of cardboard. Using a pencil, draw around the outline of the picture frame on the cardboard.
-
Step 2
Measure the opening of the original picture frame. Mark this on your piece of cardboard.
-
Step 3
Add a 2 inch boarder so that your piece of cardboard is 2 inches larger than the picture frame. Cut out this frame.
-
Step 4
Cut the inside frame of the cardboard so that there is a 1/2 inch overlap where the cardboard overlaps the original picture frame.
-
Step 5
Using pieces of the wrapping paper, glue them onto the cardboard frame outline. Let your child have a blast – there’s no right or wrong way to do this and they don’t even need scissors.
-
Step 6
Try to have pieces of the wrapping paper that have to get wrapped over the edges and glued to the underside of the cardboard. This will help the edges look more finished.
-
Step 7
Let the wrapping paper collage dry.
-
Step 8
Glue the wrapping paper collage to the original picture frame and insert a picture from your special event.

on 3/24/2008 Great idea! Another type of paper you could use out of context would be wall paper, or newspaper...both are very fun to create with!

on 1/10/2008 What a fab way of recycling wrapping paper as well as allowing kids to express their creativity. I will definitely have to try this out after our next present unwrapping event!

on 1/6/2008 This is a great idea. You could also give them a little intro to Picasso..he made collages using interesting wall paper, but wrapping paper is a great alternative!
