How to Make a Wrapping Paper Collage Frame

How to Make a Wrapping Paper Collage Frame thumbnail
When the gift has been opened, use the paper in a collage.

Instead of throwing away all the beautiful wrapping paper that you get, recycle it. Use it to have children create a collaged picture frame that will bring back memories of the special day. Children love making things and will enjoy using wrapping paper to remind them of how much fun they had on the birthday or holiday.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Center the picture frame on the cardboard. Using a pencil, draw around the outline of the picture frame on the cardboard.

    • 2

Measure the opening of the original picture frame. Mark this on the cardboard.

    • 3

Add a 2-inch boarder so that cardboard is marked 2 inches larger than the picture frame. Cut out this frame with a scissor or craft knife.

    • 4

Cut the inside frame of the cardboard so that it extends 1/2 inch inside the original picture frame.

    • 5

Glue pieces of wrapping paper onto the cardboard frame outline. Let your child have a blast -- there's no right or wrong way to do this, and the child can tear the wrapping paper instead of cutting it with scissors.

    • 6

Wrap pieces of the wrapping paper over the edges and glue them to the underside of the cardboard to make the edges look more finished.

    • 7

Let the wrapping paper collage dry.

    • 8

Glue the wrapping paper collage on top of the original picture frame and insert a picture from your special event.

Great idea! Another type of paper you could use out of context would be wall paper, or newspaper...both are very fun to create with!

What a fab way of recycling wrapping paper as well as allowing kids to express their creativity. I will definitely have to try this out after our next present unwrapping event!

This is a great idea. You could also give them a little intro to Picasso..he made collages using interesting wall paper, but wrapping paper is a great alternative!
