The web can be tough to navigate, it is nice to know you can bookmark the sites you really find useful and visit often.
Internet Explorer offers ways you can quickly restore any favorite websites you wanted to save. There is no hardware or software required, only the backup data (USB flash drive, floppy disc, hard drive, CD, or DVD). This will work regardless of what version of Microsoft Windows you are running.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • USB flash drive
  • CD or DVD
  • Fountain pen
  • Internet Explorer
  • Microsoft Windows
  • Notebook
  1. Step 1

Access the Favorites tab in Internet Explorer, click Organize Favorites.

  2. Step 2

Insert the backup media (CD, USB flash drive, or DVD) that contain your Internet Explorer favorites or bookmarks. Make sure your computer recognizes the media and opens it accordingly. Some media needs formatting while USB flash drives are plug and play.

  3. Step 3

Click, drag and drop your backed up favorites folder into the current favorites folder of Internet Explorer. It may take a few tries, be patient. It may be necessary to rename the file something like "favorites 1" to avoid the confusion of two Internet favorites folders on your web browser.

  4. Step 4

Drag and drop files and folders while in the Organize Favorites screen of Internet Explorer. Do not forget to delete any favorites no longer needed. No special software is needed, everything you need is right in your home computer web browser whether you use Windows XP or Windows Vista.

  5. Step 5

Use a new online backup option. Internet Explorer now offers a free version of Mozilla Foxmarks to save your favorites. Sign up with a username and password and give them information as needed. Foxmarks will import your favorites from Internet Explorer for retrieval on any computer.

  6. Step 6

Don't forget to comment and let me know which of the steps worked for you or if you tried the new step 5!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can even do this procedure with files from a friend or business associate. Just give the "favorites" files original names so you do not lose track of them.
  • This can be done regardless of the email program you use
  • Rename your favorites folder so you know it's the "former" favorites. Remember to click that folder to open up your former favorites or you will not find them.
