A computer is a wonderful tool, but using its software and features can be a daunting task. This article will help you create a new storage folder--or several storage folders-- on your computer's desktop. Whether you have a notebook or desktop, these steps will work with either system.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Microsoft Windows
  • Title for your new file folder
  • Documents
  • Pictures
  • Music
  1. Step 1

Once you store something, it can get lost in the shuffle of hundreds of music, document and photo files you create, purchase and store. Placing a new file folder (or several) on your computer desktop will help you find it fast. This is helpful also if you use the files on a daily basis.

  2. Step 2

To get started, exit out of any running software programs. Get back to the desktop. Go to a blank space on your home (or business) computer desktop (the screen you start on) and right-click the mouse.

  3. Step 3

Go to "New" on the properties menu that appears.

  4. Step 4

Slide on over then click the "Folder" choice on that drop down menu that appears. A folder will appear, so go ahead and give it a name. You can always change it later on as needed.

  5. Step 5

Using your mouse, drag and drop music, email, software, icons, documents, spreadsheets, photos and more in the folder. You can create as many of these desktop folders as necessary. You may want to group them by project or subject.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can drag other files and folders into the folders on your desktop or anywhere on your computer.
  • If you come up with this menu by accident, hit "Esc" in the corner to exit out of it.
