Hydrangeas are big, beautiful blue flowers. They make great arrangements that compliment any room in your home. But they wilt and die quickly once cut. This is because their stems get clogged by a sticky sap like substance.

My mother has always had beautiful hydrangea bushes and has always managed to keep them fresh. Using these steps you can, too.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cut hydrangeas
  • 1 cup of hot water
  • Vase of room temperature water

    Cut Hydrangeas

  1. Step 1

When you go to your where your hydrangeas grow, take a container of water with you, tepid not cold, right from the tap. Place the cut hydrangeas into the water and take back to the kitchen

  2. Step 2

Once inside boil two cups of water. Pour some water into a cup.

  3. Step 3

Re-cut the hydrangeas to the length you want for your arrangement and dip stem into hot water for 30 seconds. This will soften the sticky sap like substance within the stem and allow the cut hydrangea to take in water.

  4. Step 4

Arrange flowers in a vase of room temperature.
