Peonies can last a lifetime if planted and cared for correctly. Here's how to plant roots.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • peony roots
  • hand shovel
  1. Step 1

Purchase peony roots in early fall or early spring. These are the only times to plant roots for successful growth.

  2. Step 2

Dig a small hole in your garden about 4 inches deep.

  3. Step 3

Place roots in and keep moist.

  4. Step 4

Roots planted in the fall will bring plants in the spring after the frost. Spring roots will bring plants during the same season usually. During the first year after planting, the peonies may not bloom until a year after so be patient. After that, they'll bloom year after year for 30 years plus.
