Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- 9-inch-by-9-inch baking pan, buttered
- 6 cups French, challah or brioche bread cubes
- 3/4 cup dark or light raisins
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon grated orange rind
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- For orange sauce: 1 cup orange juice; 1/2 cup sugar; 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Step1
Mise en place tray for Bread Pudding with Orange Sauce
Create a "mise en place" tray. The French term literally means "to put in place." That means have all the ingredients you need for a recipe weighed and measured before you begin. It saves time.
Step2
Bread and raisins in pan.
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Place bread cubes and raisins in buttered baking pan.
Step3
Mix together eggs and milk.
Mix together eggs, sweetened condensed milk, 2-1/2 cups hot water, melted butter, orange rind, vanilla, cinnamon and salt.
Step4
Moisten bread cubes completely.
Pour egg-milk mixture evenly over bread, moistening completely.
Step5
Bread pudding, puffy and golden, right out of the oven.
Bake 40 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
Step6
Plated Bread Pudding with Orange Sauce
Make the orange sauce by combining in a saucepan orange juice, sugar and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Serve with warm bread pudding. Garnish with a dollop of whipped cream and orange zest, if desired.

on 2/23/2008 I have tried to make bread pudding just one time and it didn't turn out very good at all. Your recipe sounds easy and very good, so I'm just going to have to try it. Thank you.
