Woo your lover with a romantic Valentine's meal for two

Show your beloved how much you care this Valentine's Day with a romantic home-cooked elegant meal for two. While it might seem easier to grab some chocolates and flowers or book into a plush restaurant, it can be costly and impersonal.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Time
  • Preparation
  • Organisation
  1. Step 1

Ensure that your home will be clutter and distraction free for your meal. This could include sending the kids to stay with relations, tidying the home or shutting off the tv. A clean house will allow you to keep you and your partner focussed on the romance and beauty of the evening.

  2. Step 2

Set the scene with scented candles, a sensuous table setting and flowers. Serve your meal on luxurious tableware that oozes romance and highlights your cookery. A formal place setting is recommended to give your loved one that restaurant feel.

  3. Step 3

Choose relaxing music to soothe you while you dine. Select music that will put you both in the mood.

  4. Step 4

When planning your meal, remember to keep your food choices light. A light fish dish such as salmon is an ideal choice. The last thing you want is a meal which sits heavily and leaves you and the one you cherish feeling sleepy afterwards!

  5. Step 5

Choose foods known for their aphrodisiac properties to inspire love. These include: oysters, chocolate, asparagus, fennel, almonds, coriander, avocado, basil, aniseed, carrots and figs.

  6. Step 6

Choose foods that can be shared and inspire playfulness such as a warm cheese fondue or finger foods.

  7. Step 7

While alcohol can lessen inhibitions, it isn't a great help in the bedroom, so keep it to a minimum! Choose a sparkling non-alcoholic cider, served in wine glasses, to make the most of your post-dinner delights.

  8. Step 8

Serve dessert in a bedroom that is dressed for romance. Fresh fruit cut into bite-size pieces, such as grapes, melon, strawberries and apples served with cream or a warm chocolate dip is the ultimate way to finish off your meal with your partner.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't forget to leave time between all that cooking and cleaning to prepare yourself for the meal! Dress to impress the one you love.
