Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • Felt-tipped pens
  • Tape measure
  • Scissors
  • Plastic wrap
  • Fiberglass mesh
  • Mosaic tiles in various colors
  • Tile nippers
  • White glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Patio cleaner
  • Black cement stain
  • Tile adhesive
  • Notched trowel
  • Sand
  • Cement
  • Sponge
  1. Step 1

Draw the design for the board with 100 squares. It helps to look at the real game as you draw it. Do a test game on the paper to make sure it is right.

  2. Step 2

Measure out the area to be covered by the game. Cut out 25 pieces of paper to fit the area. Fold them into quarters and mark out the sections. These are the 100 squares needed. Copy out your design onto the 25 pieces of paper using a felt tip pen.

  3. Step 3

Cover the front of each of the 25 squares with plastic wrap and the a peice of mesh cut to size. Outline each of the squares with black tiles cut in half. Use the glue and the paintbrush to stick them to the mesh.

  4. Step 4

Outline the numbers with quarter tiles and the chutes and ladders with half and quarter tiles. Fill in chutes and ladders with brightly colored glass tiles. Fill in the background squares with two different colors for even and odd squares.

  5. Step 5

Leave the squares to dry overnight and then turn them over and peel off the paper and the plastic wrap. Let completely dry.

  6. Step 6

Clean the paving slab where you are going to put this with patio cleaner. Add a black cement stain to the tile adhesive following the directions on the package. Apply a thin, even layer of adhesive to each square with a notched trowel.

  7. Step 7

Lay on the design, one section at a time, allowing for gaps between the slabs. Tamp down the squares gently and leave to dry completely.

  8. Step 8

Grout the mosaic using a mixture of sand, cement and water with an added black stain. Wipe off the excess with a damp sponge and let dry slowly.
