How to Grid Your Cross Stitch Project

Whether you are a beginning stitcher or starting a complicated design, basting grid lines on your fabric can be a blessing in disguise. Although it is tedious, it will pay off a hundred times over in ease and accuracy. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cross stitch fabric
  • Cross stitch pattern
  • Thread
  • Needle
  1. Step 1

    Locate the center of your fabric by folding it in half horizontally and then vertically.

  2. Step 2

    Locate on your chart the two darker grid lines closest to the center marks. Basting over two and then under two threads, baste the two grid lines closest to the center. One will be vertical and one will be horizontal at this point.

  3. Step 3

    Following the chart, use these lines to count with baste in the remaining dark chart lines, 10 stitches apart.

  4. Step 4

    Remove the basting as you fill in areas of the pattern.
