How to Improve Your Crossover Dribble in Basketball

An effective crossover dribble is a very effective tool when trying to beat the defender. This article will describe a drill that will improve your crossover dribble and your ability to finish strong at the basket.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Basketball
  • Basketball Hoop
  • Cone
  1. Step 1

    Place a cone at the top of the key. This cone simulates the defender that you have to beat to get an open lay-up.

  2. Step 2

    Pick a starting line about 10 feet from the cone.

  3. Step 3

    Start dribbling toward the cone with your right hand. When you approach the cone, come to a jump stop and do a front crossover dribble to your left hand.

  4. Step 4

    Go quickly past the cone and head to the basket for a lay-up.

  5. Step 5

    Do a lay-up using the proper form.

  6. Step 6

    Get your own rebound and dribble back quickly to the line to start the next crossover move.

  7. Step 7

    The first crossover move is described above. Here are all of the crossover moves that you should perform. You will do each crossover move starting with the right hand and then with the left hand.
