How to Display or Hide Gridlines in a Word Table

When you create a table in Word, the table’s gridlines show the boundaries of the table when the table doesn't have borders applied. Gridlines only appear on the screen and not when you print your document. You can turn off gridlines and your table will display exactly as it will be printed. Here’s how.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Open an existing Word document that includes a table.
Step2
Or, create a table in a new document by click “Table” from the standard toolbar. Point to “Insert” and then click “Table.” On the “Insert Table” dialog box, customize your table by determining how many rows and columns you want. When you are finished click “OK.”
Step3
Select the table by clicking the “Drag Handle,” which looks like a + with arrows on all ends.
Step4
On the standard toolbar, click “Format” and then click “Borders and Shading.” On the “Borders” tab, under “Setting” click “None” and then click “OK.” This will clear the borders from your table; now you will only see the gridlines.
