Make a plan. Set a date. Deciding exactly when you will quit will prepare your mind for the actual event.
Step2
Get support and encouragement. Make family members and co-workers aware of your decision to quit smoking. You will likely be surprised at the amount of support you receive. And, if you have children, they will be very proud of you.
Step3
Throw away all of your cigarettes, ashtrays, lighters, and other smoking utensils or devices.
Step4
Brush your teeth often. Gargle with mouthwash or pineapple juice whenever you get the urge to smoke. No one likes to smoke when their mouth feels all clean and fresh. It makes the cigarette taste awful.
Step5
Keep hard candy easily accessible at all times. Chew gum.
Step6
Keep straws that are cut in half to hold in your hand and/or chew until you get used to not holding a cigarette.
Step7
Recognize your smoking “triggers” such as after meal time, first thing in the morning, or when you get in your car. Be ready for the urge. Use your pineapple juice or mouth wash. Paint your fingernails, take up crocheting, or some other hobby that keeps your fingers busy.
Step8
Beginning a regular exercise routine will help you to succeed at your attempt to quit smoking.
Step9
Of all the tips and tools outlined in this article, the best advice I can offer is to educate yourself. Read all that you can about nicotine addiction. What it does to your health. What to expect from withdrawal. The more you educate yourself the better chance you have at success.
Tips & Warnings
Keep candy, straws, and mouthwash/pineapple juice with you at all times
Avoid places where you used to commonly smoke
Keep company with nonsmokers
Don't allow anyone to smoke in your home or car.
During those very difficult times where you feel like giving up, pick up the phone and call a friend or support line for help.

I was a pack and a half a day smoker and quit smoking in one 30-minute treatment with laser therapy. I went to a company called Freedom Laser Therapy that provides a painfree low-level laser procedure which helps alleviate nicotine withdrawal symptoms. The staff at Freedom Laser Therapy is dedicated and passionate about helping smokers end their nicotine addiction.
I would really recommend laser therapy to help you quit smoking. Go to their locations page to find a Freedom Laser Therapy clinic or a local quit smoking laser therapy practionioner in your area. http://www.freedomlasertherapy.com

Excellent article - as a former smoker I applaud your advice! The only thing I could think of adding would be to have your best friend pray for your success when you quit. (I married her two years later!)
