For some of us, our allergies can keep us awake at night with are sneezing or running nose. Here is some tips on how to get a better sleep by cutting down on the dust in your bedroom.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • vacuum
  • wet cloth
  • allergen spray

Step1
First thing, and this is the toughest one, is to keep cats and dogs out of your bedroom. They carry pollens in their hair that can set off a sneeze attack, so get them a comfy cushion and put them in another room at night.
Step2
Close windows and let the air conditioner do it's job of filtering the air.
Step3
Make sure there is a barrier between your potted plants and carpet. If water gets on the rug and sits underneath the planter it will begin to mold. Also, make sure the potted plants does not have mold or mushrooms growing in the dirt.
Step4
Wash your curtain/drapes or eliminate them all together and put up blinds, but you will still need to dust your blinds.
Step5
Dust regularly in your room and take out any silk plants as they collect dust so easily. Don't forget your ceiling fan. The blades on the top side can be thick with dust and the first time you turn in on in the summer can set of an explosion of dust through the room. Also, have plain lamps in the bedroom, something where dust can't collect on the fancy scroll work.
Step6
Wall paper is just another material and can cause allergies in some people. A painted wall is the best.
Step7
Hard floors are the best, but if you can't do that, then steam clean your carpets regularly (this also helps get rid of dust mites) and then vacuum regularly with a vacuum with a hepa filter.
Step8
No feather pillows, just foam and minimize the throw pillows on the beds. They look so great, but dust collects on them. If you want to keep the look, buy some that can be washed regularly.
Step9
Keep your bedroom dusted by using a wet rag. This helps collects the dust instead of moving it around the room.

on 5/5/2008 My husband and I have terrible allergies, and I do everything you suggested except keep the dog out. Now I'm wondering if the big lug is partly to blame for our sinus troubles at nite. Someone's not gonna be to happy...........thanks for the info.
