Whether you are looking for an every day updo or a perfect twist for a special occasion, not to fear, you don' have to have a personal assistant to get that pretty updo.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • hair (chin length or longer)
  • hair sticks, hair pins, hair clips, bobby pins
  1. Step 1

Pull all of your hair back, like you are gathering it for a pony tail at the base of your neck.

  2. Step 2

With hair taught in your hands, pull your hair straight back and out(keeping it gathered together) and start twisting.

  3. Step 3

Twist hair in a counter-clockwise motion, ensuring all strands are naturally being worked in your twist.

  4. Step 4

Once all hair is in the twist, keeping hair taught, pull hair up against back of head--the base of the twist should be resting in the middle of your head.

  5. Step 5

Use one hand to hold the twist flat against the back of your head. Tuck the "tail" of the hair around your fingers (which are holding your twist against your head) and back underneath the base of the twist.

  6. Step 6

Use hair pins and/or bobby pins to secure the tail tucked into the twist. Once you've done this, grab your hair sticks or additional hair clips to secure the overall twist. Be sure to "weave" the hair sticks, pins, etc through the twist in a diagonal direction from the twist, feeling the pins grab the hair securely. Otherwise, try again.

  7. Step 7

Ta da, you now have a romantic up do. Spray the front of your hair with hair spray, keeping whatever wisps of hair down you'd like, to add to the romance of the up do.

Tips & Warnings
  • day old hair works best as it will hold better with natural oils
  • depending how you tuck the tail of the hair will define how your up do looks and works. have some fun with it as you get more comfortable
  • you can add to the overall romance of the look with a tighter or looser twist
  • tuck feathers, a vintage broach or fanciful hair clips to "festive" up your do for a special occasion
  • practice makes perfect. you may have to try this several times until you get the hang of it and/or achieve the look you want.
