The Talmud is an essential cornerstone in Judaism. Talmud learning is easy if you know where to start.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your mind
  • A set time for learning
  1. Step 1

Learn about how the Talmud works. The Talmud is a complex set of writings compiled by many Rabbis. The Talmud has many sections, called Tractates, all relating to different parts of life. Visit a website such as Aish.com or Chabad.com to learn more about Talmud basics.

  2. Step 2

Find a Chevrusa (study partner). This is easier than it sounds. Many Jewish scholars around the country would love to spend an hour or two with you learning. To find a Chevrusa, contact a local kollel or synagogue.

  3. Step 3

To effectively learn Talmud, you must choose a section and set a schedule. Anywhere from one hour per week to one page per day. As you become more comfortable with the learning process, you can find more than one chevrusa or try Daf Yomi (a page a day).

Tips & Warnings
  • Some people learn with a partner by phone. Visit Aish HaTorah to learn more.
  • You can find some information online, at sites such as WikiTalmud.com
  • A chevrusa will want a serious commitment, you can find a class at a local synagogue if you are not sure about spending at least an hour a week.
