How to Choose Healthy Snacks for Toddlers

It is important to teach toddlers to snack on healthy foods but sometimes it is hard to choose what to give them. Here are some ideas for healthy foods that taste good and can be fun to eat. Read on for some ideas for making these snacks as well as some ways to have the toddler help preparing them.

Things You'll Need:

  • Flavored Yogurt
  • Plastic ice-pop molds
  • Wooden sticks
  • Plastic wrap
  • Cucumbers
  • Cream Cheese
  • Raisins
  • Peanut butter
  • Whole grain crackers
  • Baby Carrots (sliced lengthwise in thin strips)
  • Celery (cleaned and cut into sticks)
  1. Step 1

    Frozen yogurt pops

    1. Pour yogurt into ice-pop molds (fill just below the top).
    2. If the ice-pop mold has a lid put it on and put the wooden sticks in the holes. If there isn't a lid put plastic wrap over the mold(s), poke holes for the wooden sticks and put the sticks in the holes.
    3. Place the molds in the freezer for 1 to 2 hours.
    4. Remove plastic wrap, slide frozen yogurt from the mold and serve.

    Cucumber smiley faces

    1. Slice the cucumber into thin slices, about 1/4 inch thick.
    2. Spread cream cheese onto one slice of cucumber.
    3. Have the toddler help make the face with raisins for eyes
    and the carrot slice for the mouth.

    Peanut butter smiley faces

    1. Spread the peanut butter onto the whole grain cracker.
    2. Have the toddler help make the face with raisins for the eyes
    and the carrot slice for the mouth.

    Ants on a log

    1. Spread peanut butter or cream cheese into the celery stick.
    2. Have the toddler help place the ants (raisins) onto the log.

  5. Step 5

    Remember that as a role model if you eat the healthy snacks, the toddler will want to also.
