Make Distinctive Book Covers

If you must cover your child's schoolbooks, you don't have to buy those mundane commercial book covers. You can use simple paper after applying colorful designs to create a distinctive, modern look. Your children can help with this project.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Brown paper grocery bags
  • Wrapping paper or scrapbook card stock
  • Tape and glue
  • Scissors
  • Decorative pens (optional)
  • Scrapbook material (optional)
  1. Step 1

Cut open the paper bag and construct the basic old school book cover, using tape to hold the flaps together and make it more secure. Place it on the book to check the fit, and then remove it so you can begin the design.

  2. Step 2

Once you choose a wrapping paper or card stock, cut it to the size of the paper bag book cover. Add a few inches on each end to cover the edges and the inside flap section.

  3. Step 3

Using a glue stick, cover the back of the decorative paper with glue and affix it to the paper bag book cover. Allow it to dry.

  4. Step 4

Place the cover on the book and further embellish the cover with scrapbook materials or color or by creating designs with decorative pens.

Tips & Warnings
  • To make the cover more personal, add a picture and hold it in place with picture tabs or scrapbook embellishments.
