If you don't have the space to hang your laundry outdoors, or you can't hang it there due to inclement weather, you do have options. You can line dry your laundry inside. You can employ this method when you don't want to use a dryer or when an item's instructions call for line drying.

From Quick Guide: How to Do Laundry
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Laundry area (such as a laundry closet)
  • Screwdriver
  • Pen or Pencil
  • Laser Level
  • 8’ Retractable Clothesline
  • Clothes Pins
  1. Step 1

Find an area inside, preferably near the washer, where you can mount an 8-foot retractable clothesline. Remember that you will want to hang it high enough to hang clothing from it without having it drape over the washer or dryer.

  2. Step 2

Take a pen or pencil and mark the wall on which you will mount the clothesline. Hold the laser level while a partner marks the opposite side of the wall. This side will hold the line retainer from which you will hang the line when it's in use.

  3. Step 3

Unpack the retractable clothesline and mount the main piece on the first wall that you have marked. Most of these clotheslines mount with a simple screwdriver.

  4. Step 4

Switch to the opposite wall and mount the bracket that will hold the extended line. Once both pieces are mounted, extend the line and use the laser level once again to make sure it is level.

  5. Step 5

Grab some clothespins and some clothing items that normally need to be air-dried and test the clothesline for strength and durability. If the line is not taut enough, pull the entire line out and cut the excess amount. Tie a knot in the line, attach it to the retainer and test the tautness again.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you need more than one line, certain companies also make 12’ five-line retractable clotheslines.
  • If you cut the drying line, make sure you leave enough room to tie the knot.
