Imagine a bedroom decorated in a rich, monochromatic scheme. Elegant furniture draped in shimmering cream-colored fabrics establishes a dramatic and alluring space. The key is not to overdo the cream colors and to balance them with an accent hue. Follow these steps to decorate a bedroom in all cream colors.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Wall paint or wallpaper in a neutral shade
  • Cream-colored bedspread
  • Cream-colored draperies draperies
  • Gold or brass curtain rods
  • Chair, chaise or settee in a cream fabric or cover
  • Gold-trimmed mirror and picture frames

Step1
Select wall paint or wallpaper in a light hue, such as creamy beige or very pale yellow. Stay away from creams that match the fabrics in your room because you will want to have a subtle contrast. A tone-on-tone pattern on the wallpaper or a texturized paint technique will create a nice backdrop for the rest of the room.
Step2
Select draperies in a shimmering cream fabric. Be sure the color of the draperies harmonizes with, but does not match, the walls. Select gold or brass curtain rods. These will anchor the light-colored draperies. You may choose to place white wooden blinds behind the curtains to give more definition to the window area.
Step3
Choose a sofa, chair or settee with a bit of detail on the arms and legs. A settee with curvaceous arms and carved legs makes the piece stand out in a monochromatic room and creates a stunning focal point.
Step4
Decorate the walls with a few prints, photos and mirrors outlined in gold or brass frames. These need not be overly large or ornate, but should have enough going on to make them stand out on the light walls.
Step5
Select a cream-colored bedspread or duvet cover with a tone-on-tone pattern, such as stripes or geometric shapes. Accent the cover with sheets and pillows in a soft but different color, such as an icy blue or sea foam green.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use throw pillows on beds and seating for more color and visual appeal. Choose fabrics that incorporate more than one neutral tone and have pleasant patterns, such as stripes or flowers.
