Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Pencil and paper
- Camera
- Grand or upright piano
- Chairs and a sofa
- Side tables
- Table lamps
- Accessories
Step1
Jot down the dimensions of the piano before you bring it home. This is a heavy piece of furniture, and you don't want to have to move it around a room to find a place where it fits.
Step2
Take photos at different angles of the room in which you plan to have the piano. Imagine the piano resting in each corner of the room. When you find a spot you like, measure to be sure the piano will fit. Also, determine if there is enough natural light, overhead lighting and nearby light fixtures. You need enough illumination to easily read the music.
Step3
Clear the room of all furniture and accessories. Place the piano in the designated spot. Place one or two cozy chairs and a small table in the space opposite the piano. This will create a nice listening space but also provide an intimate conversation area.
Step4
Place a sofa in the center of the room and add a coffee table and two more chairs if there is room. Everyone seated should be able to see the piano player without having to completely twist themselves around. If it is a very large room and you have space for more seating, use lightweight furniture, such as ottomans, that you easily can move closer to the piano. make sure none of the furniture is too close to the instrument so that there will be no obstructions for the piano player.
Step5
If the room where the piano rests is adjacent to other public areas, such as a family room, design that space so that people seated inside can see the piano player.
Step6
Rearrange furniture to create the best viewing and listening options. Better to move the furniture than to have to move a very heavy piano.
Step7
Complete the design process by adding paintings or prints and tabletop accessories, such as family photographs.
