Step 1
Let go of anxiety. Everyone thinks of reunions as a time to impress. Remember that you don't care about all of these people, you probably don't talk to anyone, so it's not going to make or break your life.
-
Step 2
Forget everything about highschool, or whenever it was that you knew these people. Start fresh. Forget clicks and problems with people. Assume that everyone else has grown up with you.
-
Step 3
Dress well. Be neat, clean and well kempt. Don't look like you came off the street, even if you are a successful landscaper. It's better to overdress than underdress. These people don't know how you dress on a regular basis.
-
Step 4
Be kind to everyone. Forget who was weird, who you didn't like, who was cool and everything else. Rise above it all and get around to talking to everyone. Act like you're interested in what they've been doing, even if you're not.
-
Step 5
Avoid talking too much about your financial situation. Whether you are a doctor or dirt broke, not talking about it makes you seem polite and put together, even if you're not.
-
Step 6
Don't stay too long. See everyone. Get numbers for networking. Ask everyone a question about themselves and then leave. Sitting at a table by yourself because you're bored is not a good way to make an impression. Leave them wanting more.
