How to Show Appreciation
Have you ever struggled over how you would let someone know that you appreciated something? In our fast-paced world it is a rare luxury to be able to slow down and do a kind favor for someone. It is often just as difficult to show appreciation. However, expressing gratitude is an important social art that is worth learning and practicing. Follow the steps below to become fluent in the language of appreciation!

1
Say 'thank you' immediately when someone does something kind for you. Although this may seem extremely basic, many people do not practice this basic method of expressing gratitude. Often, you may mean to say it, but in the course of events and conversation it gets forgotten. Don't forget! Make sure you take the time to say 'thank you'.

2
Write a 'Thank You' card within a week of the kindness. This should be done even after you have verbally thanked the person. This will emphasize your appreciation for the kind deed. 'Thank You' cards do not have to be long. A simple sentence or two is sufficient.

3
Offer to return the kindness with a favor. If their gift was of monetary value, give of your time. For example, you could offer to baby-sit their kids for free, or mow their lawn. If their gift was of time then give them a gift of monetary value such as flowers or a gift card.
-
4
Brag on the person when out with common friends. Mention how the person was so kind to you when they did the kind favor for you. You could even post a big public 'thank you' on your social networking page and/or their page.
-
5
Mention your appreciation much later in time. For example, a few months later you could simply tell them that you were thinking back on their kindness and you are just so grateful for their generosity. Or, if the kindness was done by a church, organization or person you don't regularly see, write a short letter a few months later just letting them know what a wonderful thing they did for you.
