In today’s world, when we are all expected to juggle relationships, careers, family, and friends, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle. Unfortunately, many people seem to be so set on finding one piece of this puzzle--a romantic partner--that they lose their own identity in the process. The best couples are made up of two individuals, so one great way to ensure your romantic future is to take the time to venture into what could be the most important relationship of all--your relationship with yourself. Here's how.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take a break from the pursuit of a relationship. If you have online profiles, disable them. If you meet a new person, act as you would if you were in a relationship with anyone else, and stay committed.

  2. Step 2

Go out on dates with yourself--try going to dinner and sitting at the bar. Go see a movie, or go to a play. Just because you are by yourself doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy time out.

  3. Step 3

Ask yourself the questions you would normally ask a partner on a first, second or third date. What are you dreams, goals, or worst fears? Answer these questions and you’ll learn a lot about yourself.

  4. Step 4

Ignore the social concept that people who are by themselves are lonely. You can be your best companion.

  5. Step 5

Move on when you feel you are ready. Your relationship with yourself will never end, but taking the time out to get to know you again will make you not only a better person but ultimately (when the time is right) a better partner for someone else.
