Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Identify cultural differences early. Whether opposites attract or it is commonality that brought you together, having been raised in a foreign culture comes with a separate set of social rules. In order to avoid misunderstanding, discuss these disparities early on.
Step2
Take an active interest in their home country. Not only will this put them at ease and communicate your interest, it will also help bridge the inevitable cultural barrier.
Step3
See beyond their nationality. Make sure your attraction is not confused with a fascination with an exotic location.
Step4
Be prepared when thinking about the future. If dating turns into love, and love turns into wanting to be together full time, be mindful of the legal issues (immigration, visa, etc.) that can come into play.
Step5
Always remember that though they may now call this country home, there is the likelihood that their family, friends and history are elsewhere. Consider the following: homesickness, holiday plans, and the possibility that they might want to return some day (and perhaps take you with them!).
