These cookies are so good, and so addictive, that, no matter how many you make, they’ll be gone before you know it. They’re perfect for holidays or just Tuesday.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Mix shortening, egg, sugar and vanilla in large bowl with an electric mixer. Set aside.
Step2
Blend flour baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. Add to the sugar mixture alternatively with the sour cream. Stir until firm. Add food coloring and use your hands to evenly work the color through the dough. Separate dough into two sections.
Step3
Place one section on a heavily floured surface and roll to a ½ inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Decorate.
Step4
Place on greased cookie sheet and bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges start to brown. Move to wire rack and completely cool. Repeat with second section of dough.
Tips & Warnings
Dough can also be rolled and formed into shapes.
For a fun mix of cookies, add one color to the first section and another color to the second section.
To minimize mess, decorate while cookies are still in cookie cutters.
