If you've got a budding cheerleader at home, you probably delight in seeing her jump, shout and clap around the house. A pair of pom-poms for her to shake while doing those cute cheers would complete the adorable picture. Tissue paper pom-poms are a great craft that you and your child can do together. When you're done, sit back and enjoy a high-energy show with your cheerleader and her dazzling and fun tissue-paper creations.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 6 sheets of tissue paper, 3 for each pom-pom (can be single color or multiple colors)
  • 2 trash bag twister ties
  • Scissors
  • Glitter and/or sequins (optional)
  • Glue (optional)
Step1
Have your child decide if the pom-poms should be 1 color, 2 colors or multiple colors.
Step2
Take 3 sheets of tissue paper. Fold them width-wise and place them on top of each other.
Step3
Starting at the "open" end of the tissue paper, cut approximately 1-inch thick strips, stopping about three-quarters of the way from the folded part of the paper. If your child is too young to use scissors, you can do the cutting while your child folds tissue paper for the other pom-pom.
Step4
Now gather the sheets of tissue paper together like a fan, starting at the end closer to you and working your way to the other end.

Tips & Warnings

  • Allow your child to come up with the color and style of the pom-poms, and help out only when needed. This will give your child a sense of personalized creativity.
  • It's okay if the strips of tissue paper are not evenly cut. When the pom-pom is finished, slight imperfections will not be noticeable.
  • Young children should only handle safety scissors.
  • All children should be supervised when using scissors.
