Now that Summer is here, bushfires are a potential threat, particularly in these dry years during drought. Follow these simple steps to ensure that you are prepared for a bushfire.

Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Clear roof and gutters of leaves, pine needles and any branches

    * If possible, use a mower, rake or spade to make a firebreak around your home, and trim branches well clear of your house

    * Fit wire screens to doors, windows, and vents, and enclose all gaps, roof eaves and the area under your house

    * Decide on a household plan to either leave early or stay to protect your home during a bushfire.

  • Discuss your concerns with nearby neighbours
  • Listen to the radio in case of a fire in your area
  • Have reliable transport available
  • Clear the view of your house number so it can be easily seen from the street - this will help the fire department locate your house
  • If there is a fire, phone the Fire Service. Don't assume that they know there is a fire
