The holiday season and winter time are prime jigsaw puzzle times. Puzzles are pretty straightforward, but a few tips for beginners can't hurt.

From Quick Guide: Jigsaw Puzzles
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Jigsaw puzzle
  • Playing surface
  1. Step 1

Start with the edge pieces first. These pieces are easily distinguishable by their straight edges.

  2. Step 2

Focus on a certain section of the puzzle, preferably an easier part with a lot of detail.

  3. Step 3

Slowly move to more and more difficult parts of the puzzle, such as sections that have less detail.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's important to have good etiquette as well. If a person is working hard on a section and needs one more piece to complete it, for example, it is polite to give the person the piece if you come across it rather that putting it in place yourself.
  • Teamwork is also important.
  • Be sure to take breaks. Puzzles can be addicting but can also put a kink in your neck.
