mountain biking is a great way to get out doors and have a great time while getting into shape. Mountain Biking can be started on a pretty small budget and only a few things are needed.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • mountain bike
  • helmet
  • waterbottle
  • light clothing
  1. Step 1

Find a good reputable bike shop. If you buy a bike from a major department store it wont last long. With bikes, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. A good basic trail bike will cost from about $500-$2,000 dollars. My first bike was $650 dollars and I still ride it!!!! some good brands are: Specialized, Kona, GT, etc.

  2. Step 2

Tell the bike shop employee what you're looking for. let he/she know you're just starting and you want something simple. Remember these shop employees are NOT car salesman, there not going to try and pressure you into buying something you don't need, if you do feel pressured try a different shop. And don't forget a helmet!!! The shop should fit a bike that works well for your body height a weight. and give you a few pointers on starting out.

  3. Step 3

A good way to find a place to start out your brand new hobby is to ask somebody at the shop. Their usually avid bikers themselves and are willing to give you some good locations to start riding.

  4. Step 4

Once you find a place to start riding your new bike, start out riding slow to get used to the feel of the bike, especially if you havent roden a bike in a while. Try changing gears. before you know it youll be taking those single tracks and switch backs like a pro!! good luck and remember have fun!! and always take a helmet and water.

Tips & Warnings
  • check local helmet laws, although I suggest a helmet everytime you ride
  • if you own a car you may want to invest in a car rack to transport your new bike
  • become friends with youre local bike shop employees and they may invite you on a ride on their favorite trail.
  • keep your bike tuned up to help extend its life.
  • make sure youre allowed to ride youre bike in certain places
  • stay aware of warning sighns
  • if the trail is open to hikers and bikers, be aware of the hikers and show them respect and hopefully they will do the same.
  • drink plenty of water, and make sure to take enough for the entire ride. Trust me dehydration isnt fun.
  • If youre tired, take a break!! youll be able to keep up with youre buds in no time, if you exhaust yourself youll stop having fun.
  • no littering!! thanks.
