Things You'll Need:
- Determination
-
Step 1
Start by looking online for local acting opportunities. Craigslist.org is a great resource, and has a film/tv category. Many student film and low-budget independent film directors use this site to find actors and extras for their productions.
-
Step 2
Take advantage of any acting classes that are offered in your town. Community colleges can offer great, affordable classes and even theater and film majors. The most important thing an aspiring actor can do is to train, train, train.
-
Step 3
Contact your local film commission, and ask about any upcoming film productions that may be coming to your area. Contact the production companies and ask if they will be holding local auditions.
-
Step 4
Building an acting career, especially in NYC and LA, is all about building connections and meeting the "right" people. Take any opportunity to be an intern or volunteer with an entertainment company in your area. Even if you aren't acting you will still be building important contacts and networking.
-
Step 5
Audition for plays at community theaters and colleges. Landing a part in one of these small productions will help build your acting resume. Any experience on stage will help you on your journey to becoming a successful actor or actress.
-
Step 6
Contact the film department at your local community college to ask about upcoming student production and auditions. You probably won't get paid for your work, but the experience you will gain will be worth it.
