Things You'll Need:
- Vacuum, hot water, soap, towel
-
Step 1
Look for signs of flea in your dog i.e., excessive scratching and biting; raw patches especially around the tail and lower back; and, presence of black, granular dried blood. If you find any of these symptoms, you may need to be wary.
-
Step 2
Vacuum your home thoroughly giving close attention to corners, cracks and the basement. This is because fleas thrive on warm and humid area. They are also very small that they can hide on the corners and cracks.
-
Step 3
Fleas are also very tiny and may hide on carpet fibers and upholstery. They have spiky body that is hard to entangle from your carpet fibers. You therefore need to be vigilant especially on your carpet and upholstery.
-
Step 4
Wash pet beddings regularly. Use hot water and keep it as soapy as possible.
-
Step 5
Bathe your pets weekly and make sure you dry him thoroughly.

on 10/30/2008 Dear ipshita,
Thank you for your comment.
Are there any dogs around the neighborhood? The fleas might be coming from other dogs. Even walking a dog on the park can predispose him to fleas.
As mentioned, fleas are quite tiny and they can hide on cracks on the floor or even the gaps of the windows and doors, so check those out.
Vacuuming the floor and keeping your dog's beddings clean would be necessary to manage flea problem.
If he has fleas now, you can soak his beddings with hot water to kill any fleas that might have laid eggs on them.
I hope that I am able to help you.

on 10/26/2008 Is there any other concrete option? India has warm humid climate and an average house does not have carpets on the floor most of the months. My spitz suffers from this flea infestation often and we give him bath once a week. He is mostly indoors.

on 10/22/2008 No one has said anything about what works for organic treatments on your pets? Is there one or not? someone must know the answer to my question. I'm just a pet lover for 10 years and this is the first year that she has been bothered by fleas and she is allegic to them I can not afford to take her to the vet for treatment and I feel really guilty but this is a very struggling year for everyone. So if someone knows something that I can use that I already have in my home to, use on my dog Josphine Helen Black Coca Goetz.
Thank-You,

on 9/9/2008 I can't imagine what an infestation would be like, but this article sounds like good tips for helping to keep them under control.
