Step1
Deciding on what you want to do for a living can be a daunting task. Suppose you honestly do not know what you want to do for a living or you have a job but you are unhappy in it, how do you find the job or career that is right for you?
Step2
I found out through trial and error, and by employing what I am about to write about, that I enjoyed the medical field. I always have been fascinated by that area. I tried to go to school to become a Surgical Technician and went for a few semesters, until my wife and I decided we wanted a baby. in vitro was a great deal of money so I did not have anymore money for school. I already had taken out loans therefore I did not want to burden myself anymore financially down the road.
Step3
Luckily while I worked at a nursing home, I befriended someone that used to do something I thought was fascinating. His brother ended up being the boss at a local branch where I wanted to work. He hooked me up and I ended up getting the job or career that I wanted. I am now a tissue procurement specialist and help save lives.
Additionally, ever since fifth grade I have written because I my teacher was boring. My passion is to write. Moreover, when I am not out on the road, I write. Both are passions of mine and feel blessed that I found my niches.
Step4
You may be telling yourself, well that’s fine; he knows what he wants to do, but what about me? I believe that the best way to find what you want to do is to read the classified section of your newspaper. You might be saying, “Duh, I do that everyday”. Hear me out.
From the first page of the classified section to the last page, go through every field. Read the Administrative section to the Warehouse section thoroughly. I mean read every single job that is available from the beginning of the classifieds to the end.
Step5
The next thing to do is to reread it, BUT this time circle whatever job you find interesting. It could be working at a Laundromat to teaching calculus. It does not matter. Circle whatever job interests you. Now, do that for at least three solid weeks, and try not to miss a day. A month would be better, but do what you can. After you compile three to four weeks of consistently circling what jobs you find interesting, take the classified sections and make a list of all the circled jobs. You will notice, after you do that, a pattern emerges. There will be jobs that you have hardly circled and there will be jobs that you repeatedly have circled. The jobs that you have repeatedly have circled are, more than likely, the jobs that fit you. If you had circled jobs that are in the teaching profession and you work at a supermarket or McDonalds (And there is nothing wrong with those professions) then perhaps you should consider going to school and become a teacher or professor of a subject that inspires you.
Step6
If you are an architect and follow the example, you may find that you circled a lot of jobs pertaining to gardening, then try to find a part time job somewhere and try your hand at gardening. Let me state right here that I do NOT advocate you immediately switch careers without trying the other one out. Take it slow. Try going part time with the circled field of interest or a related one. While that may not work for everyone, that is how I determined I wanted a career in the medical field. It was a starting point.
